Suez Canal Witnesses Transit of Giant Container “EVER AIM”

Osama Rabie, head of the Suez Canal Authority announced on Sunday the crossing of the giant container ship “EVER AIM” on its first cruise through the Suez Canal through the new navigation course of the canal during its trip from Malaysia to the Netherlands.

The giant ship “EVER AIM” topped the navigation movement from the south direction with a total tonnage of 241,000 tons, carrying 21,656 TEUs. It is the sister ship of the largest container ship in the world EVER ACE and is similar in dimensions and technical specifications.

The ship has a length of 400 meters, a width of 61.5 meters, and a draft of 16.40 meters, and it can carry up to 23,992 containers on board.

The Suez Canal also witnessed the first transit of the passenger ship COASTA FIRENZE on its first cruise through the Suez Canal, as part of the northern convoy coming from Cyprus and heading to Oman.

The length of the ship is 323 meters, its width is 36 meters, and its draft is 8.5 meters. The ship raises the flag of Italy, and it carries 1602 passengers on board.

Rabie directed that all necessary measures be taken to ensure safe passage through the appointment of a group of senior authority guides, and the provision of navigational aids from accompanying locomotives, in addition to instant follow-up from the main traffic office and guidance stations along the canal.

In accordance with the protocol followed by the Suez Canal Authority in dealing with ships transiting the canal for the first time, the head of the authority delegated chief guides Wissam Hafez and Khairy Sayed to board the container ship and welcome its crew with a souvenir to the captain of the ship. Khaled Hussein, chief guide also greeted COSTA FIRENZE.
