The General Authority of the Suez Canal indicated that the navigation traffic of the canal is completely normal, increasing by 8.5 percent during the month of January, to record the transit of 1645 ships from both directions, compared to 1516 ships during the same month last year.

The Authority denied the reports that the navigation traffic in the Suez Canal was affected by the spread of coronavirus.

In a response to the Cabinet's Media Center on Friday, the authority affirmed that there is no truth to the disruption of navigation in the Suez Canal as a result of the virus outbreak.

The authority stated that the volume of net tonnages for ships passing through the canal increased by 9.8 percent, to reach about 105.7 million tons in January, compared to 96.3 million tons during the same month last year, a difference of 9.4 million tons.

It pointed out that the increase in the numbers and tonnages of vessels transiting the canal positively reflects the revenues of the Suez Canal.

The revenue increased by 6.1% to reach about $ 497.1 million during Jan. compared to $468.7 million during the same month last year, an increase of $28.4 million.

The authority called on all media and social media outlets  to investigate the accuracy and objectivity of what is being published, and not to pay attention to fake news.
