Suez Canal continues to operate smoothly amid adverse weather, with 39 vessels transiting in both directions on Wednesday, carrying a total net tonnage of 1.6 million tons, according to Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA).

Speaking from the SCA’s main traffic control center, Rabie emphasized that the canal’s operations remain uninterrupted thanks to the authority’s advanced technological systems for monitoring navigation and the highly skilled personnel in various maritime operations.

Rabie confirmed that all necessary precautionary measures have been implemented to manage the challenges posed by inclement weather. He instructed all SCA maritime units to adhere strictly to safety protocols, especially during pilot boarding and disembarkation, and to follow the regular operational procedures that ensure secure navigation.

The Crisis and Disaster Management Committee is operating around the clock to monitor canal traffic and maintain rescue readiness, including keeping emergency tugboats on high alert. Medical and emergency facilities under the SCA, including hospitals, clinics, and fire and ambulance services, are also prepared for rapid response. Continuous coordination with operations centers in Suez Canal cities ensures support is available in case of emergencies.

In addition to commercial shipping, the SCA continues to provide safe transit for citizens across the canal via ferries, bridges, and tunnels, following marine safety instructions and in coordination with traffic offices in the three canal cities.

Rabie’s remarks highlight the Suez Canal’s resilience in handling extreme weather challenges, reaffirming its role as a vital global shipping corridor.
