Suez Canal: Ever Given Rudder "Released", Moves in Both Directions

Osama Rabie, head of the Suez Canal Authority said that the rudder of the stranded vessel "Ever Given" was released and moving 30 degrees in both directions.

He added, during a call-in with TV anchor Ahmed Mousa on Sada El-Balad channel, that the 'tide is high and we benefit from it in the towing and dredging work.

Rabie indicated that the work to release the container ship, which carries over 20 thousand containers, continues daily and throughout the 24 hours, through operating tugboats, and dredgers.

"We are currently working with 10 tugboats and two dredgers, using push and pull techniques," he added.

The head of the Suez Canal Authority confirmed that the accident was caused by several factors, the most important of which was taking the wrong direction. "The vessel is 400 meters long," he pointed out, adding that the width of the canal in this area is 250 meters.
