Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority announced the arrival of the floating dry dock "Fakhr Al Canah" to the Port Said naval arsenal, after the success of its crossing through the Suez Canal within the southern convoy in a special transit operation towed by the tug POSH HAWK, on its journey coming from the SANG SANGIN arsenal in South Korea.
Osama Rabie confirmed, in a statement issued Saturday that the floating dock is a qualitative leap that adds new capabilities in the field of repair and maintenance of ships and large marine units in light of the authority's strategy to diversify sources of income by providing additional services to ships transiting the canal.
He pointed out that the new floating dock is the latest addition to the Port Said marine arsenal, which includes three other floating docks used in the maintenance and repair of ships and marine units of the Authority, with tonnages ranging from 5,000 to 25,000 tons.
"Fakhr Al Qanah" will allow the addition of new capabilities in the field of repair and maintenance of large ships passing through the canal and large marine units of the authority such as giant dredgers, as its dimensions has a total length of 260 meters and a width of 62 meters. Its draft reaches 18 meters, with a load of 35,000 tons.
It is worth noting that crossing the floating dock was a special transit process that took nearly 24 hours and necessitated taking some previous measures to ensure direct transit without stopping in the waiting area in the Great Lakes and without affecting the movement of ships crossing the canal.
