General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of Sudanese Sovereignty Council, stated that the government welcomes and supports U.S. President Donald Trump's initiative and mediation regarding the Nile waters to find sustainable and satisfactory solutions that preserve the rights of all parties.
President Donald Trump sent an official message to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, affirming that resolving tensions related to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is among his top priorities.
Moreover, Trump announced his readiness to resume U.S. mediation between Egypt and Ethiopia to resolve the Nile water-sharing issue and reduce tensions surrounding the dam, stressing that the United States recognizes the strategic importance of the Nile River to Egypt and its people.
Furthermore, Trump asserted that the United States believes no country should unilaterally control the Nile’s water resources to the detriment of its neighbors.
He maintained that fair and transparent negotiations, coupled with a strong U.S. role in coordination and follow-up, could lead to a permanent agreement serving the interests of Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia.
