Amid escalating battles in Sudan, the Khartoum State authorities have issued a two-week ultimatum for all foreigners to leave the state, which has been witnessing near-daily confrontations since the onset of the war.
Colonel Nizar Khalil, the head of the Foreigners and Immigration Enforcement Department in Khartoum State, has mandated a 15-day deadline for all foreigners to vacate Khartoum to safeguard their lives during the ongoing conflict. This decision was based on guidelines from the Khartoum State Security Coordination Committee.
The Sudanese army currently controls the locality of Karari and some of the old districts in Omdurman, while the rest of the areas in Omdurman, Khartoum, and Bahri are under the control of the Rapid Support Forces, with the exception of the Sudanese army's headquarters and bases.
Before the war erupted on April 15, 2023, Sudan was home to over a million refugees, the majority residing in urban areas. Additionally, the country has been a transit route for illegal migration to Europe from West African nations.
