Sudanese Transitional Military Council (TMC) and the Forces for Freedom and Change (AFC) agreed to form a sovereign council in the country after two days of negotiations between the two sides.

African Union envoy to Sudan Mohamed Ould Labbat, announced that the TMC and the leaders of FFC agreed on the rotating presidency of the sovereign council for at least three years.

They also agreed to investigate, with transparency, the recent violence, as well as forming a government of independent national competencies.

Vice President of the Transitional Military Council, Mohammad Hamdan Daklo, said that the agreement would not exclude anyone, thanking the African, Ethiopian, Saudi and UAE envoys for their great role in bringing the views closer.

Omar al-Dukir, a leader of the Alliance for Freedom and Change said: “the priorities of the next government is improving the situation and punishing those who were responsible for the death of protesters.

Noteworthy, the streets of Omdurman, Khartoum’s twin city across the Nile River, erupted in celebration when the news broke, a Reuters witness said. Thousands of people of all ages took to the streets, chanting “Civilian! Civilian! Civilian!”

Young men beat drums, people honked their car horns, and women carrying Sudanese flags ululated in jubilation.

“This agreement opens the way for the formation of the institutions of the transitional authority, and we hope that this is the beginning of a new era,” said Omar al-Degair, a leader of the FFC.
