Military sources report that Sudanese Army units entered the presidential palace in Khartoum from the east on Friday.

According to Sudanese state television, the Sudanese Army now controls the presidential palace in Khartoum.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) hold most of western Sudan and parts of the capital; however, nearly two years into the conflict, they are suffering losses in central Sudan against the army.

Recent months have seen intense clashes in Khartoum between the Sudanese Army and the RSF, with the former making gains in areas previously under RSF control and attempting to fully reclaim the capital.

Since April 2023, a war has been raging in Sudan between the army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the RSF, led by his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti. The conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, displaced 12 million people, and led to a severe humanitarian crisis, reports Reuters.
