Sudanese Minister of Cabinet Affairs Khaled Omar Youssef stressed on Saturday that Ethiopia's unilateral filling of Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) threatens Sudan's security and stability.
It is worth mentioning that, Egypt’s FM Sameh Shoukry stressed, during a call in with TV Presenter Amr Adib, that the Ethiopian general’s statements are provocative and do not lead to cooperation, but rather express the insistence of Ethiopia to impose a unilateral action concerning the filling and operating the Renaissance Dam.
Earlier an Ethiopian military commander appeared on RT channel, saying that Egypt will not bomb the dam because its fighters don’t have the necessary weapons for that, adding that after the second filing, all countries will come and sit with Ethiopia to discuss water shares.
Shoukry continued, “Egypt was talking about the ability to establish relations based on cooperation and common interests with Ethiopia but, we confirm that Egypt is capable to protect its water rights. We use all peaceful means and international mechanisms, but this does not negate that we have the ability and insistence to stop any harm to the interests of the Egyptian citizens and their water rights.”
