Sudan has become the first country in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to receive anti-coronavirus vaccine from the COVAX facility.
About 800,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine arrived on Thursday at the Khartoum International Airport.
The batch was delivered with UNICEF’s support through COVAX; a coalition co-led by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (Gavi), and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI).
It aims to ensure the equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines to countries regardless of their income.
