Sudan’s Prime Minister, Dr. Kamal Idris, has pledged to break the ongoing siege of El Fasher, praising the Sudanese Armed Forces and allied groups for their resistance. He urged all Sudanese citizens to rally behind the national initiative to end the blockade, declaring: “Victory will come when we stand united behind one man.”
Call for International Responsibility
Dr. Idris appealed to the regional and international community to take full responsibility in helping to lift the siege of El Fasher immediately and to stop what he described as “unprecedented crimes and violations in the history of humanity” committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Speaking at the launch of the National Committee to Break the Siege of El Fasher in Port Sudan, he revealed steps to escalate the matter globally, including addressing the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in the coming days, contacting UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and appealing to the UN Security Council to respond to Sudan’s call.
UN General Assembly Participation
The Prime Minister is leading Sudan’s delegation to the 80th UNGA session in New York, accompanied by Foreign Minister Ambassador Mohi El-Din Salem Ahmed. Sudan’s delegation will present a national statement, hold meetings with heads of state and international organizations, and highlight grave human rights violations committed by the RSF and foreign mercenaries, including fighters from Colombia.
Sudan’s delegation will also participate in key side events, including the ministerial meeting of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), the G77 + China meeting, the OIC coordination meeting, the Arab consultative meeting, and the first summit on a sustainable global economy, alongside events on non-communicable diseases and humanitarian fragility.
Broader Significance
Observers note that Sudan’s appeal at the UN comes at a critical moment as El Fasher remains a flashpoint in the conflict. The government hopes that international pressure can compel urgent action to end the humanitarian crisis.
