The Sudanese capital, Khartoum, experienced a total shutdown of telecommunications and internet services today, coinciding with escalating clashes between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese army.
Military Advances in Khartoum
The Sudanese Armed Forces announced their capture of the Al-Ruwad Residential Complex, located in the northwest of Khartoum. The army claimed to have inflicted significant losses on the RSF during the operation. Meanwhile, reports from local media indicated that the army has been shelling RSF positions in Khartoum Bahri with heavy artillery.
Army Promises Victory
General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the head of Sudan's Sovereignty Council, reassured the nation that the army remains committed to reclaiming every inch of Sudanese territory. He expressed confidence that "victory over the rebels will come very soon," signaling a potential turning point in the protracted conflict.
Strategic Gain in Wad Madani
In a significant development, the Sudanese army announced its entry into Wad Madani, a strategic city in central Sudan and the capital of Al-Jazirah state. The army claimed to have expelled RSF forces from the city, which has been under RSF control since December 2023.
A video released by the army purportedly shows troops inside Wad Madani, highlighting a potential shift in the conflict’s dynamics. If fully secured, the city’s recapture would represent one of the army’s most substantial gains in the nearly two-year-long war.
Escalating Humanitarian Crisis
The ongoing conflict continues to exacerbate Sudan's humanitarian crisis, with communication blackouts and military operations intensifying the plight of civilians. The situation remains fluid, with both sides vying for control in key areas across the country.
