Sudan announced today, on Saturday, the closure of its borders with Ethiopia, following the escalation of violence in the region.
The local government in Sudan’s eastern al-Qadarif state began closing its border with the Ethiopian regions of Tigray and Amhara on Thursday evening until further notice, according to SUNA.
The government also warned people on the border to be careful about the repercussions of tensions in neighboring Ethiopia.
"Areas neighboring the two Ethiopian regions are currently witnessing intense activity in harvesting,” the government added. “Any security tensions could seriously harm farmers and their crops.”
The Ethiopian Federal Council approved a resolution allowing the federal government to intervene in the northern Tigray region and form an interim government there.
