The Sudanese Foreign Minister-designate Omer Gamereldin called for demarcation of the borders with Ethiopia after the army had controlled all Sudanese territory.
The statements of the foreign minister came against the background of the meeting between the President of the State of South Sudan, Lieutenant General Salva Kiir, with Lieutenant General Shams El Din Kabbashi, member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, in the presence of Gamereldin, and Counselor Tut Qalwak, Adviser to President Kiir for Security Affairs at the Presidential Palace in Juba yesterday, Thursday.
In a press statement after the meeting, the foreign minister said that he briefed Kiir on the latest developments in the situation in eastern Sudan and "the differences with the brotherly state of Ethiopia," stressing that what happened was a "normal thing that happens between neighboring countries."
According to the State-owned News Agency "SUNA", Gamereldin affirmed that the army "has extended its control over its territory," stressing that Khartoum and Addis Ababa "will reach solutions as long as we agree on the issue.”
He noted that "demarcating the borders between the two countries is a successful solution for all problems.”
The meeting touched on the peace agreement signed in Juba. Moreover, Khartoum thanked the State of South Sudan for its efforts and sponsorship of the negotiations that culminated in the signing of a comprehensive agreement.
