US authorities said a student was killed and another critically injured in a shooting at Kentucky State University in Franklin, just days before the start of winter break.
Police and university officials, according to CNN, said Wednesday that the suspect, a 48-year-old Indiana resident who is not a student at the university, is being held at the Franklin Regional Jail on charges of murder and first-degree assault.
University spokesman Michael Decoursy told CNN that the injured student is in critical but stable condition. He explained that the shooting, which occurred during final exam week, was not a targeted attack.
The university announced last night that all classes, exams, and on-campus activities are suspended for the remainder of the week. In a statement, the university said, "Students may return home if they wish, and further guidance will be provided as soon as possible."
