The stroke unit affiliated to the neurology department at Ain Shams University hospital won the diamond award for 2018/2019.
This honoring took place during the opening session of the European Stroke Conference in Milan.
The conference was held on 24th of May in the presence of 5000 neurologists.
Dr. Hani Aref, the head of neurology department and president of the conference was the one who handed the award.
The stroke unit was ranked as the best one in 13 countries and was the first unit to win the diamond award in Egypt and the Middle East.
It’s worth mentioning that the unit was inaugurated in 2014 and it treats about 350 patients yearly according to the international standards.
An injection to dissolve clots is used to treat more than 30% of the patients.
Recently, doctors started using cerebral catheterization as an effective treatment in some cases.
The unit is on its way to get the quality accreditation from the German enterprise to adopt stroke units.
