London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan unveiled the Ramadan lights in the heart of London, describing them as “a symbol of our city’s diversity.”
On Friday, the Mayor participated in the lighting ceremony, which will keep the lights illuminated throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
The lights display the message “Ramadan Kareem,” and buildings across the capital were illuminated in green, the color of Islam, to mark the occasion.
Sir Sadiq Khan said: “I am delighted to be part of the lighting ceremony. These lights are a shining symbol of our city’s diversity – an inclusive and welcoming city that takes pride in celebrating all its communities.”
The Mayor’s office announced on social media: “The Ramadan lights are shining again in the West End. These beautiful lights will be illuminated throughout the coming month to celebrate Ramadan, a proud symbol of our capital’s openness to and celebration of diversity.”
The Labour Muslim Network praised the lights, commending them as evidence of Britain’s openness, positivity, and love.
