In a jaw-dropping turn of events, filmmaker Steven Spielberg has signed a multi-year deal to supply movies for Netflix.
The deal sees Spielberg's production company, Amblin Partners, making multiple feature movies per year for the streaming giant.
The partnership was announced Monday but doesn't specifically include any movies to be directed by the filmmaker.
In a statement, Spielberg stated: “It was abundantly clear that we had an amazing opportunity to tell new stories together and reach audiences in new ways”.
On the other hand, the filmmaker is preparing to shoot this summer his semi-autobiographical movie starring Paul Dano and Michelle Williams, which is expected to go to Universal.
He is also working on the comedy movie “Easter Sunday” and the horror movie “The Last Voyage of the Demeter”.
This December, the filmmaker is set to release his latest movie "West Side Story" theatrically with Disney's 20th Century Studios. Amblin has a separate deal with Universal Pictures for theatrical releases.
Spielberg is the creator of huge commercial success movies such as “E.T.”, “Jaws”, “Schindler’s List”, and “Jurassic Park”.partnership
In 2020, Amblin collaborated with Netflix on the Oscar-nominated movie “The Trial of the Chicago 7”.
