Zamalek were held to a 1-1 draw at home to the National Bank of Egypt (NBE) in the fifth round of the Egyptian Premier League.

The Whites entered the game sitting third on the league table, five places ahead of Bank Al Ahly, who had a strong start to the season.

Zamalek players found themselves behind after just 16 minutes through a header from Mohamed Helal following an inch-perfect cross from Osama Ibrahim.

Zamalek dominated the remainder of the first half but failed to pose any real danger on Bank Al Ahly as the first 45 minutes finished in a 1-0 lead for the visitors.

Seven minutes later, Zamalek were awarded a penalty after a handball on Issahaku Yakubu for Zizo to score his fifth goal of the season, with all of his goals coming from the spot.

Bank Al Ahly keeper El-Zonfoly nearly gifted Zamalek the win after he tried to dribble past Obama, who intercepted the ball and passed it to Mostafa Fathi, with the latter’s strike going wide.

The draw keep Zamalek third with 10 points from five games, five points behind arch-rivals and league leaders Al Ahly, while Bank Al Ahly dropped to ninth.

Zamalek next game will see them face Ceramica Cleopatra away from next Thursday, while Bank Al Ahly will host Arab Contractors a day later.
