British Prime Minister (PM) Keir Starmer stated, "We will work with our partners to seize the opportunity and reach a long-term settlement to the Iranian crisis."
He emphasized, "We need an agreement that ends the conflict and reopens the Strait of Hormuz, while unconditionally guaranteeing the freedom of navigation through it," adding that it is vital that Iran is never allowed to develop a nuclear weapon.
Previously, Starmer rejected calls for his resignation from the leadership of the Labour Party and the premiership, following the party's losses in the local elections, which preliminary results indicate are severe.
In statements to Sky News, Starmer said: "We achieved a massive victory in July 2024, and I led the party to that victory. This is a five-year mandate to change the country."
