Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by SpaceX, has announced one month of free internet access for users across Venezuela after two powerful earthquakes caused widespread destruction and disrupted communications throughout the country.

In a statement shared on X, the company said it is rapidly deploying additional Starlink terminals and working to restore connectivity in the hardest-hit regions. The initiative is intended to support emergency response teams and help affected communities maintain access to critical communications during the recovery effort.

The earthquakes struck Venezuela's northern coast and the capital, Caracas, on Wednesday, leaving at least 188 people dead, according to official figures. Authorities have warned that the death toll is likely to rise as rescue crews continue searching collapsed buildings for survivors.

The twin earthquakes rank among the deadliest natural disasters in Venezuela's recent history, surpassing casualty levels seen in decades and marking one of the country's most severe seismic events since the 1967 earthquake, which claimed 240 lives.

The disaster severely damaged communications and power infrastructure across multiple regions, prompting Starlink to provide emergency connectivity to support humanitarian operations, rescue missions, and coordination among first responders.

Health Minister Carlos Alvarado said medical facilities had received approximately 235 bodies by late Thursday, although officials have not yet released a final nationwide death toll.

Meanwhile, National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez said around 200 people were believed to remain trapped beneath the rubble, while approximately 250 buildings were either destroyed or sustained significant damage.

Authorities also reported extensive damage to critical infrastructure, including at least eight hospitals, the headquarters of the Venezuelan Red Cross, and the French Embassy, further complicating relief efforts as emergency teams continue operations across the affected areas.
