Sports and Youth Minister Dr. Ashraf Sobhi witnessed the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the ministry and the charitable international humanitarian organization Terre des Hommes.
The memorandum entails the establishment of 8 digital community centers to train Egyptians and refugees at youth centers, with the support of the Community Empowerment for Refugees Project (CEP).
Under the terms of the MoU, Terre des Hommes will develop eight digital centers at youth centers across Cairo as computer labs and equip them with computers and provide them with the Internet to present an equal opportunity for Egyptian youth and refugees to obtain accredited courses through the global Coursera platform that from international countries in the field of programming, web design, graphic design, data analysis, and many other fields.
The courses will be free of charge and the students will earn recognized credentials from the platform.
The minister stressed that the Ministry of Youth is witnessing a great leap in the fields of qualifying young people for the labor market and digital skills.
He pointed out that the youth had the largest share of the support and care from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Sobhi noted that they have become one of the most important objectives of the comprehensive development programs that Egypt is currently witnessing due to the sponsorship and support.
Ablo Mathieu, the representative of UNHCR in Egypt, stated the Egyptian government pays great attention to youth, supports them, and seeks to cooperate with United Nations bodies to support and protect them from the bad situations they face.
He pointed out the areas that will host the digital community centers are: the Olympic Center in Maadi, Civic Education Center in the 10th of Ramadan City, 6th of October Youth Forum, 6th District Youth Center in the 6th of October City, New Maadi Youth Center, Helmeyat El Zaytoun Youth Center, Ain Shams Youth Center, and Sheikh Zayed Youth Center.
