Sphinx International Airport officially received the inaugural flight of Kuwait Airways arriving from the State of Kuwait, marking a new step toward boosting air connectivity and supporting travel movement between Egypt and Kuwait.
The first arrival flight landed with 108 passengers on board, while the departure flight carried 130 passengers, amid smooth operational procedures and efficient passenger services. Airport officials confirmed that all arrival and departure processes were handled seamlessly, reflecting the airport’s growing operational readiness.
The occasion was marked by a celebratory atmosphere, underscoring the warm reception extended to the Kuwaiti national carrier and highlighting Sphinx International Airport’s commitment to delivering a welcoming and high-quality travel experience for passengers.
Under the new schedule, Kuwait Airways is set to operate three weekly flights to and from Sphinx International Airport. The move is expected to contribute to increased travel activity, provide passengers with greater mobility options, and further strengthen people-to-people and economic ties between the two countries.
The launch comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Egyptian Airports Company to expand airline networks across Egypt’s airports and enhance service standards for travelers. Officials view the addition of Kuwait Airways as an important milestone in positioning Sphinx International Airport as a growing regional hub serving both tourism and business travel.
In a related development, Egypt continues to advance its aviation sector in line with international standards. Earlier, Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny attended the handover ceremony of Egypt’s National Action Plan for the Aviation Sector through 2028 to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The plan was formally delivered by Captain Sameh Fawzy, Head of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, to Mohammed Rahma, Director of the Air Transport Bureau at ICAO, in the presence of senior Egyptian and international aviation officials.
The national plan was developed through close cooperation between the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, with participation from Egyptian airlines, Cairo Airport Company, the Egyptian Airports Company, and the National Air Navigation Services Company.
Implementation will be overseen by the Permanent National Committee for the State Aviation Action Plan, ensuring continuous monitoring and adherence to the latest ICAO international standards.
El-Hefny praised the efforts of all entities involved in drafting the strategic plan, expressing appreciation for the collaboration among national aviation stakeholders. He emphasized that such initiatives, alongside expanding airline operations at airports like Sphinx, reflect Egypt’s broader strategy to modernize its aviation infrastructure and enhance its role as a regional aviation center.
