Speculation continues to swirl over whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could one day resume their royal responsibilities.
Cultural critic Kristin Meinzer told the Daily Express that Harry never intended to completely step away from his role as a senior member of the royal family.
“Harry has said time and again that he never wanted to fully give up his royal duties,” Meinzer explained.
She added that, in an ideal world, Harry and Meghan might have pursued their own projects while still serving “the Crown," much like Harry’s uncle, Prince Edward, and his wife, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh.
However, according to Meinzer, the late Queen Elizabeth II’s decision to allow the Sussexes to fully step back and relocate to the US meant they were denied the opportunity to balance personal passions with royal service.
She also noted that the institution failed to properly address the racism Meghan faced.
In July, NewsNation’s Paula Froelich reported that Harry and Meghan’s representatives met with one of King Charles’s aides, hinting at a possible royal truce.
Meinzer suggested that, unlike the late Queen, King Charles might take a different approach:
“If he can arrange duties that come with flexibility and a high degree of security, I think Harry and Meghan would absolutely consider returning.”
