Spanish media reported on Friday that Israel refused to participate in the "Union for the Mediterranean" forum, as Spain wanted to discuss peace in the Gaza Strip.

The Spanish newspaper La Razon, quoting unnamed Israeli diplomatic sources, as saying that the danger of (the meeting) is that it will turn into another international forum in which Arab countries attack Israel so Tel Aviv does not intend to participate in this meeting.”

The Spanish newspaper added that Madrid wanted to transform the "Union for the Mediterranean" forum, which will be held next Monday in Barcelona, into a summit to bring peace between Israel and Palestine.

La Razon explained that Israel refused to participate immediately after the official meeting of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Last Wednesday, Israel and Hamas reached, with Qatari-Egyptian-American mediation, the first large-scale agreement since the conflict escalated on October 7.

The agreement stipulates a cessation of hostilities for a period of 4 days and includes the exchange of dozens of hostages and detained prisoners.

The ceasefire in the Gaza Strip entered into force at 7 a.m. today, Friday.
