Spain has expressed strong appreciation for Egypt’s diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and push toward a ceasefire in the ongoing Iran conflict, highlighting Cairo’s growing role as a key regional mediator.
Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares praised Egypt’s leadership in mediation and its efforts to contain the crisis, commending initiatives aimed at preventing a wider regional confrontation. He described Egypt’s role as “pivotal” in easing tensions linked to the Iranian file, which has kept European capitals on edge in recent weeks.
The remarks came during a phone call between Albares and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty, where both sides discussed the latest developments in the conflict and its broader implications for the Mediterranean region and global stability. The escalation, which began in late February, has raised significant concerns over security and economic repercussions worldwide.
Discussions also covered the deteriorating humanitarian and political conditions in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon, with both ministers describing the situation as critical and in urgent need of coordinated international action.
Spain reiterated its support for Egypt’s diplomatic track, emphasizing the importance of mediation efforts to secure a ceasefire and prevent further escalation across the Middle East.
