Spain detected, on Saturday, its first suspected case of Marburg, the fatal virus that outbroke in Equatorial Guinea, according to health authorities in the Spanish region of Valencia.
A 34-year-old man was transported from a private hospital to an isolation unit at La Fe in Valencia for further examination. The suspected case was recently in Equatorial Guinea, the current spot of the virus outbreak.
The percentage of deaths of Marburg virus is up to 88%, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). In addition, there are no vaccines or antiviral treatments to treat it.
Equatorial Guinea quarantined more than 200 people and set a number of restrictions in Kie-Ntem province, where hemorrhagic fever was detected.
The small central African country reported nine deaths and 16 suspected cases of the disease.
Cameroonian authorities detected two suspected cases of Marburg disease in Olamze, on the border with Equatorial Guinea, officials said last week.
