Isaura Leal, Second Secretary of the Spanish Parliament, conveyed greetings from the Speaker of the Spanish Parliament and reaffirmed Spain’s support for Egypt’s vision based on promoting peace, strengthening dialogue, and rejecting war.

Speaking during the Bureau and Expanded Bureau meetings of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean, chaired by Mohamed M. Abou El Enein at the House of Representatives in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, Leal stressed the importance of transforming current ceasefires in Iran and Lebanon into permanent agreements.

She also called for an end to attacks targeting Gulf countries and Lebanon, as well as urgent action to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Leal highlighted the need to establish an international system grounded in respect for international law and the rights of peoples.

Emphasizing the role of diplomacy, she said dialogue remains the fundamental pillar for achieving lasting peace, noting that Spain consistently supports peaceful solutions through negotiation and political engagement.

The meetings brought together parliamentary leaders from across the Euro-Mediterranean region to discuss pressing regional challenges, enhance cooperation, and advance joint efforts to promote stability.

The Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean is composed of the Egyptian presidency along with vice presidents representing the European Parliament, the Spanish Parliament, and the Moroccan Parliament, while the Expanded Bureau includes these members in addition to the chairs of the assembly’s standing committees.
