SpaceX successfully launched a classified US military spaceplane into orbit late Thursday, marking the eighth mission for the X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle.

The Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, carrying the autonomous Boeing-built spacecraft, which is designed to test advanced technologies and conduct long-duration experiments in both high and low Earth orbit.

According to the US Space Force, the mission will trial next-generation systems, including laser communications and one of the most advanced quantum inertial sensors ever deployed in space.

Officials noted that the flight will also strengthen the resilience, efficiency, and security of American space-based communications.

The X-37B, powered by solar panels and capable of remaining in orbit for extended periods, has previously stayed in space for over a year before returning. Since its first mission in 2010, the reusable spaceplane has become a central platform for testing experimental defense and aerospace technologies.

Measuring 30 feet in length with a 15-foot wingspan, the uncrewed mini-shuttle continues to play a pivotal role in advancing US military space capabilities.
