South Sudan’s Salva Kiir Mayardit has dismissed the country’s foreign affairs and trade ministers, alongside several senior security officials, in a fresh round of government reshuffles, according to an official decree.
State media reported late Wednesday that Foreign Minister Simeon Komba and Trade Minister Atong Kuol Manyang were both removed from office. No official explanation was provided for the changes.
The shake-up also included the dismissal of Mawn Mawn Akech from his position as director general of internal security within the National Security Service, with Akec Tong Alei appointed as his replacement.
Analysts say President Kiir has repeatedly reshuffled military and government posts in recent years as part of efforts to maintain political control amid ongoing armed tensions and growing speculation over future succession in the country.
