On Sunday, South Korean authorities said 120 people were killed and 100 others were wounded in a deadly stampede in Seoul's Itaewon district, as huge of people stampeded at Halloween parties.
The death toll reached 120 deaths and 100 others were injured according to officials.
Choi Seong-beom, the head of the fire department in Yongsan, which includes Itaewon, told reporters that there were a large number of casualties during the Halloween celebrations.
The stampede occurred near the Hamilton Hotel in Itaewon's nightlife district, as a large number of people are believed to have entered a narrow alley near the hotel.
South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol, who presided over an emergency meeting on the stampede, instructed officials to quickly provide first aid and treat the injured, according to the presidential office.
Yun also ordered officials to deploy emergency medical officials to Itaewon and secure emergency beds.
Separately, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo instructed officials to make maximum efforts to minimize damage.
Meanwhile, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, who is on a visit to Europe, has decided to return home in the wake of the accident, city officials said.
A total of 142 firefighting vehicles were mobilized for the area.
