South African Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Parks Tau, has confirmed the invitation extended to all 54 African nations to attend the BRICS summit.

However, he emphasized that not all of them have confirmed their participation yet.

The office of the South African President announced that leaders from China, India, Brazil, and South Africa will personally attend the BRICS summit, scheduled to take place in Johannesburg from August 22 to 24.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will lead the Russian delegation at the summit.

Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian President, stated that Vladimir Putin has decided to participate in the BRICS summit through video conferencing, considering it a full-fledged participation.

BRICS comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, and several other countries have expressed interest in joining the economic union, including Argentina and Iran. According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt have also shown interest.

South Africa currently holds the BRICS presidency, with the presidency set to be handed over to Russia in 2024.
