Israel’s opposition leader Yair Lapid has warned that any move by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to recognize Somaliland would drag Israel into a series of regional tensions, criticizing the government’s foreign policy direction amid mounting pressures at home and abroad.

In remarks, the opposition leader said recognizing Somaliland would open the door to diplomatic and political complications, without serving Israel’s long-term interests. He argued that such a step could exacerbate existing regional sensitivities and create new points of friction.

Lapid also delivered a sharp rebuke of Netanyahu’s handling of the Gaza war, saying the current government has no clear plan for what comes next in the enclave.

He added that Netanyahu “has no ideas” regarding Gaza’s future, accusing the government of strategic vacuum at a critical moment.

The comments come as Israel faces growing scrutiny over both its military operations in Gaza and its broader regional posture, with the opposition pressing the government to clarify its objectives and outline a coherent political and security strategy moving forward.
