Somalia and Turkey have signed a new agreement focused on defense cooperation, marking a significant step toward strengthening bilateral relations and boosting defense development between the two nations.

Somali Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur announced the agreement, describing it as a historic initiative aimed at fostering collaboration across various sectors and promoting a mutually beneficial partnership.

“This agreement represents a key milestone in enhancing cooperation and shared interests,” the minister stated, as reported by the Somali National News Agency (SONNA).

He further emphasized that Somalia is continuing efforts to rebuild its military after years of conflict and instability. “The country remains committed to restoring and strengthening its national armed forces to ensure lasting peace and stability,” the defense minister added.

Under the terms of the agreement, Turkey will provide financial support for key military development projects in Somalia. These investments will also focus on essential infrastructure improvements to enhance the quality of life for Somalia’s national armed forces.

The agreement was signed during a high-level meeting attended by officials from both governments, underscoring Turkey’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s recovery and ongoing development efforts.
