Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a directive for an Ethiopian diplomat to leave the country within 72 hours, declaring him persona non grata following actions that Somalia states are "inconsistent with his diplomatic role."
The order reflects Somalia's commitment to protecting its national interests and upholding international diplomatic standards.
The ministry's statement identified the diplomat as Ali Mohamed Adan, the second secretary at the Ethiopian Embassy in Somalia.
According to the ministry, Adan engaged in activities that directly contravened the responsibilities expected of a diplomat under international law.
Somalia’s government asserted that these actions breached the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (1961), specifically Articles 41 and 42, which require diplomats to respect the laws of the host country and refrain from interfering in internal matters.
In response, Somalia has formally requested Adan’s departure within 72 hours of notification, reiterating its commitment to sovereignty and international diplomatic principles.
