The Somali National Army (SNA) carried out extensive security sweeps on Monday across several strategic areas in the eastern Lower Shabelle region. The operations targeted known militant strongholds as part of the government’s ongoing offensive against extremist groups.
Dismantling Terrorist Hideouts
According to the Somali National News Agency (SONA), the military maneuvers focused on the areas of Ay-Buti, Johra Otigley, and Asindha Bobi. During the sweep, government forces conducted house-to-house searches in various neighborhoods, specifically identifying and destroying locations used by Al-Shabaab—the Al-Qaeda-linked militant group—as hideouts and operational bases.
Securing Strategic Corridors
In addition to the Shabelle operations, SNA forces extended their reach toward the city of Baidoa. This followed a successful mission to clear a major transport route of terrorist elements, ensuring safer passage for civilians and commercial goods.
Restoring Order in Baidoa
Security agency leaders are currently overseeing follow-up operations within Baidoa to consolidate peace and ensure long-term stability. The expulsion of the Al-Shabaab militias from these key zones marks another step in the SNA's mission to dismantle the group's infrastructure and secure the nation’s interior.
The Somali government continues to prioritize these tactical sweeps to prevent the regrouping of extremist cells and to restore administrative control over liberated territories.
