Hours ago, the Somali army killed and arrested a number of militants of the terrorist Al-Shabaab movement, while responding to a surprise attack by terrorists on a military center in the south of the country.

Local Somali media confirmed that the army had thwarted an attack on a military center in the Zbib and Anuli region, on the outskirts of the city of Afgooye, 30 kilometers south of Mogadishu, in the Lower Shabelle region.

The Somali news agency "Suna" quoted army officers saying that the operation was planned and executed upon intelligence information over intents of Al-Shabab to launch the attack".

The Somali Army Command did not disclose the size of the losses nor the number of terrorists who were killed and arrested.

On the other hand, 16 people were killed and 6 others were wounded, on Friday, during violent confrontations between local residents of the town of Sibilo and Al-Shabab terrorist militias from both sides in the Mudug governorate in the center of the country.

The confrontations erupted after the terrorist Al-Shabab militia attempted to storm and control the town by force, while it was not clear to which side the outcome of the violent confrontations.

A source from the town’s residents revealed to Al-Ain al-Akhbar that “the civil resistance succeeded in thwarting the terrorist operation.

The Somali army has recently intensified its operations in cooperation with the African peacekeepers "AMISOM" and the US forces in Africa "AFRICOM" operations against Al-Shabab movement linked to Al-Qaeda. The intensification of military efforts led to a decline in its terrorist operations against civilian and military targets during the past two weeks.
