The Somali National Army has regained control of the “Jalib Marka” area in the Lower Shabelle region, following a coordinated military operation, according to official sources.
The Somali National News Agency (SONA) reported that the operation was carried out as part of a pre-planned mission executed jointly by the Somali National Army and the National Intelligence and Security Agency.
Local Residents Welcome Government Forces
SONA said local residents welcomed the arrival of government troops, noting that civilians in the area had long suffered intimidation and repression by terrorist militias.
The restoration of government control was described as a significant step toward improving security and restoring stability in Lower Shabelle, a region that has frequently witnessed militant activity.
Senior Militant Leader Killed in Separate Operation
Earlier on the same day, Somalia’s Minister of Defense Ahmed Moalim Fiqi announced the killing of a senior militant figure responsible for security and external operations.
The target, identified as Mohandis Osman Mohamed Abukar, also known as “Engineer Ismail,” was killed during a carefully planned military operation in the city of Jalib in Lower Juba.
Somali authorities said the operation dealt a major blow to terrorist networks operating in southern Somalia and reaffirmed their commitment to continuing military pressure against armed groups.
