The Somali army announced, on Saturday evening, the arrest of two leaders of the terrorist Al-Shabaab movement, during a security operation, in the south of the country.
According to the "Voice of the Army Official" radio website, "the operation took place in four villages of Afgooye, Lower Shabelle Governorate.
The commander of the "DNB" special forces that carried out the operation, Ahmed Abdullah Nur Peririi, said, "The special forces have arrested two leaders called Seydou Mio and Hajiu Ishaq."
In statements to "Voice of the Army" radio, the commander added: "The terrorists were in charge of collecting royalties from the residents of the villages in which the operation took place."
The military official explained, "The operation was planned in advance, as part of a broad operation to pursue the leaders of the terrorist organization."
He continued that during the operation, terrorist hideouts were destroyed, pledging to continue military efforts to strike leaders of Al-Shabaab militias linked to Al-Qaeda, especially the leaders of royalties to weaken the terrorist organization's funding sources.
On Friday, the Somali army announced the killing of 16 terrorists and the arrest of 6 others, in a specific security operation in the south of the country.
