The Committee of Social Solidarity and Family of the House of Representatives (HoR), headed by Dr. Abdul Hadi Al-Qasabi, rejected the budget plan of the National Population Council (NPC) for the fiscal year 2020/2021.
The budget is estimated at EGP 57 million and 967 thousand pounds compared to EGP 56 million pounds and 315 thousand the current fiscal year 2019/2020.
Lawmaker Al-Qasabi said that the reasons that previously prompted the committee to reject the previous budget of the NPC are still in place, adding that lawmakers have asked many times either to activate the role of the council to implement the strategy or freeze it.
He stressed that the HoR doesn't blame the NCP but complement to put an end to what is happening, so that such a situation cannot continue.
This was stated in the committee meeting today in the House of Representatives.
Al-Qasabi revealed the importance of the independence of the NPC from the Ministry of Health to enable it to perform the tasks entrusted to it while giving it the necessary powers to do so.
On his part, Lawmaker Muhammad Abu Hamid, deputy-chair of the Solidarity and Family Committee , said that the current status of the NPC contradicts the constitution, and it cannot play its role, adding that the reasons that led to the rejection of the previous budget are still in place.
Wages and compensation for workers in the new budget of the council over the new fiscal year are estimated at EGP 46 million and 500 thousand in 2020/2021, compared to EGP 43 million and 442 thousand this year.
Provisions for purchasing goods and services were estimated at EGP 4 million and 282 thousand compared to EGP 2 million and 720 thousand in the current year.
The current investment is about EGP 7 million, compared to EGP 10 million this year, by reducing the capacity of EGP 3 million.
