One soldier died and another was injured on Friday after an exchange of gunfire at a military airfield in Austria, media outlets reported.
The Austrian Ministry of Defence confirmed the news, pointing out that the shooting took place at the Wiener Neustadt airfield around 07:00 local time.
In the same vein, Austrian news agency APA reported that the soldier on guard opened fire with the gun during an alleged argument and was shot by a high-ranking military officer. The victim was 20 years old.
Meanwhile, the injured man was taken to hospital, according to army spokesman Michael Bauer. The spokesman did not disclose whither the man’s condition is stable or critical.
There is still information about the reason for the discussion but the Austrian authorities have opened an investigation to establish the facts.
