President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's visit to Russia opens new important horizons in the course of mutual relations between the two countries, and regional cooperation, whether on the issues of the Middle East or Russian cooperation with the African continent.
The Russia-Africa summit, scheduled to be held in Russia's Sochi city on October 23 and 24, will be co-chaired by President El Sisi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
According to a report by the State Information Service, this is the fifth visit of President Sisi to Russia. This is also the 12th meeting between President Sisi and Putin.
The summit, which brings together leaders of African countries and major African organizations, is expected to witness the signing of several agreements that contribute to achieving peace.
The summit also focuses on many important economic issues of common interest, including energy, infrastructure, mining, agriculture and information technology.
Russia is also seeking to strengthen cooperation with Africa in the fight against terrorism and extremism, moreover, it seeks to find solutions to the problems of the African continent, fight poverty and disease and work on technological progress.
Distinguished Bilateral Relations
In terms of bilateral Egyptian-Russian relations, the State Information Service (SIS) report said that Russia is one of Egypt's largest trading partners. Trade exchange between Egypt and Russia has achieved remarkable growth in 2018, reaching $ 7.66 billion, while Egypt's exports to Russia increased by 4.1% in 2018 to reach $ 526.4 million compared to $ 505.6 million in 2017.
On the economic side, the Russian Industrial Zone project in the Suez Canal Economic Zone is Russia's first off-shore project. The Russian capital in the infrastructure projects of the project amounted to $190 million, while the investments are expected to reach $ 7 billion. About 55 Russian companies have expressed their keen in investing in this project, which will create about 150,000 jobs.
On the bilateral level, the two countries have signed an agreement to establish Egypt's nuclear power project in Dabaa region, this is the largest joint project between Cairo and Moscow since establishing the High Dam project, it has economic, financial and investment dimensions.
On the regional level, the meeting between Presidents El Sisi and Putin will focus on discussing regional issues, especially in the Gulf region, Syria, Libya and Yemen.
The political relations between the two countries witnessed a positive development, especially amid the strengthening of relations between Presidents Sisi and Putin, who held (11) fruitful summits meetings in Egypt and Russia.
The Russia-Africa Summit
The summit will include a number of leaders from African countries and major African organizations, more than 40 African leaders will participate in the summit, while more than 300 businessmen from Russia and Africa will participate in the Economic Forum.
The main topics set be discussed during the summit are strengthening Russia's role in Africa, Africa's role in the international financial system, expanding cooperation, exports, investment and the security challenges. The plenary sessions will discuss a wide range of issues on the international agenda.
