Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhy, met with the UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt, Elena Panova, and her accompanying delegation on Monday to discuss the upcoming COP27 forum, which will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh in November.

The meeting included discussions on the ministry’s efforts to organize the first youth forum on climate change as part of the country’s preparations to host the Conference of the Parties (COP27), slated for November in the Red Sea city of Sharm El-Sheikh.

The UN representatives in Egypt and Sobhy also held talks on enhancing cooperation in the climate change file at the national level and discussed the program’s priorities for 2022 and mechanisms for integrating youth in efforts to confront the effects of climate change.

They stressed, in this regard, the need to promote cooperation between Egypt and the UN organizations to combat the repercussions of climate change.

In the same context, they drew attention to Egypt’s plan to involve youth in the climate conference by launching the national youth initiative 2022-2027 that allows them to present ideas and solutions.

For his part, Sobhy expressed his country’s keenness to enable youth to play an effective role within the framework of international efforts to combat climate change.
