As Slovenia marks its 32nd year of independence on June 25, 2023, it stands as a responsible and active member of the global community. It serves as a powerful advocate for peace and security and has been elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2024-2025 term.

The ties between Slovenia and Egypt have been characterized by mutual respect and cooperation that extend beyond their 31-year-long diplomatic relationship. Regular interactions and open dialogues on subjects of mutual interest have become a common feature of these bilateral relations. Egypt holds the position of Slovenia's primary trading ally in Africa, also serving as its gateway to other markets in the region.

The European nation regards Egypt as a significant partner, recognizing its influential role in easing regional tensions. Both countries also share a commitment towards multilateralism.

In his address, Slovenia's ambassador to Egypt, Mr. Sašo Podlesnik, highlighted the significant milestone of Slovenia's 32nd independence anniversary. He emphasized Slovenia's responsible position in the international arena, particularly its recent election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the upcoming term.

Underlining Slovenia's campaign slogan, "Building Trust. Securing Future", Podlesnik expressed the nation's pursuit of constructive solutions that respect international law, ensuring peace and security. He reiterated Slovenia's unwavering support for Ukraine in its endeavor to liberate its territories from Russia's uninvited occupation.

Ambassador Podlesnik celebrated the long-standing, robust relationship between Slovenia and Egypt, stressing Egypt's significant role as a partner. He mentioned the regular exchanges on regional and global issues and the developed cooperation in various fields. He also hinted at the possibility of welcoming a high-ranking Egyptian delegation to Ljubljana soon.

Ambassador Podlesnik expressed his mission of fortifying the relations between Slovenia and Egypt, particularly through cooperation in trade, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people contacts. He also mentioned the recent opening of a Consulate in El Gouna, headed by an Honorary Consul, and acknowledged the small yet substantial Slovenian community in Egypt.

The Slovenian Ambassador concluded his speech by highlighting the increased focus of Slovenia on Africa and its plans to cooperate more with African partners, alongside opening new embassies on the continent.
