Slovenia has begun its monthly presidency of the UN Security Council for September, with the Council scheduled to discuss its work program on Tuesday.
According to a statement from the Security Council, a briefing session on the situation in Syria will be held on Thursday, featuring a presentation by Deputy High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Adedeji Ibu.
The statement also noted that this week, Council members will continue negotiating a draft resolution concerning Myanmar, which has been circulated by the United Kingdom, the current lead on this issue.
On the subsidiary bodies front, the Security Council will hold a joint meeting on Wednesday, addressing ISIS in Iraq and Syria, the Al-Qaeda sanctions committee, and the Afghanistan sanctions committee (1988).
This meeting will include updates on the work of these committees and the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team.
An official meeting of the Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict is scheduled for Friday.
The group is expected to adopt conclusions on the Secretary-General’s report on children and armed conflict in Colombia.
The meeting will also feature a report from the Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict on the situation in Sudan.
