Slovak Prime Minister (PM) Robert Fico announced on Monday that he will instruct the national electricity grid operator to suspend emergency power supplies to Ukraine, according to the Russian news agency TASS.
Fico explained that this move is a direct response to Kiev’s decision to suspend Russian oil shipments to Slovakia via the Druzhba pipeline.
Moreover, he noted that Ukraine's actions have forced Slovakia to seek more expensive and potentially less efficient energy alternatives.
In a video posted on Facebook, Fico stated: "What Vladimir Zelensky is doing will inevitably lead to retaliatory measures… Slovakia is not a backward country that will simply follow instructions from Brussels, Kiev, Washington, or Moscow."
