Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, witnessed one of the most horrific aviation accidents in its recent history when two helicopters collided mid-air over the city's western district, crashing into a parking lot. All six people on board were killed, and more than 20 cars parked below were destroyed.
The collision occurred in the skies above Recerio dos Bandeirantes, an upscale neighborhood in western Rio de Janeiro overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. According to the Brazilian fire department, the two helicopters crashed into a parking lot belonging to an electric car dealership.
The crash was not the only disaster. Immediately after impact, the wreckage of the two helicopters burst into flames, which quickly spread to the parked cars. Videos circulating on social media showed flames engulfing dozens of vehicles, amidst thick black smoke billowing into the sky. Firefighters confirmed that at least 20 cars were completely destroyed by the flames.
