President Abdel Fattah El Sisi discussed developments of the Libyan crisis and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) files with U.S. President Donald Trump, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

President El-Sisi confirmed Egypt's unwavering strategic position on Libya, which aimed at restoring stability in the country, preserving its national institutions, and preventing further deterioration in Libya’s security situation via curbing illegal foreign interference in the Libyan issue. Thus, the situation will be further complicated until the repercussions of the crisis start affecting the entire regional security and stability.

On his part, President Trump expressed his understanding of the concerns related to the negative repercussions of the Libyan crisis in the region. The American President praised the Egyptian efforts to settle the Libyan issue, which would further speed up the political process in Libya. The two leaders agreed to establish a ceasefire in Libya and not to escalate the matter so as to promote dialogue and reach political solutions.

The Spokesman stated that both presidents exchanged views on the status quo of the Renaissance Dam file. They also agreed on the importance of continuing negotiations and the urgency of reaching a comprehensive agreement that secures the three countries' development and water interests.
