President Abdel Fattah El Sisi headed this morning, Friday, to the city of Brest in Brittany in the northwest of France to take part in the One Ocean Summit, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.
This summit comes within the framework of a series of gatherings dealing with environmental issues organized by the French side at the initiative of President "Emmanuel Macron" since 2017.
The One Ocean Summit focuses on marine issues and all dimensions of the ocean, including marine ecosystem protection, fighting pollution, and responding to the impacts of climate change, in addition to promoting the concept of a sustainable blue economy and building sustainable blue finance practices.
"The participation of Sisi in this important event comes at an invitation by President Macron," said Rady.
The President is among a limited number of heads of state and government invited to the summit to discuss international action on the environment and global environmental degradation, in light of the firm and growing relations between Egypt and France, in addition to Egypt’s vital role regionally and internationally in efforts and initiatives aimed at addressing climate change and marine ecosystem protection.
These efforts will culminate in Egypt’s hosting of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the UNFCCC in Sharm El Sheikh next November.
"Sisi intends to focus during the work of the One Ocean Summit on the impact of climate change on the ecological balance in the seas, oceans, and coastal areas" the spokesman added.
Furthermore, Egypt intends to shed light during the Climate Change Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh on the role that oceans can play in reducing emissions and contribute to building low-carbon economies, in addition to the importance of enhancing efforts to reduce emissions in the shipping sector, which contribute to the implementation of the goals of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
The agenda of Sisi's visit to France also includes holding summit talks with Macron, in order to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations, which have witnessed a qualitative leap in recent years, in a manner that achieves the common interests of the two friendly countries and peoples, as well as continuing consultations and mutual coordination on a number of regional and international files of common interest.
On the sidelines of the visit, President Sisi will also meet with a number of heads of state and government, to discuss promoting bilateral cooperation frameworks and consulting on various regional and international issues.
